The Power of One:
"Disturb not the harmony of fire, ice, and lightining, lest these titans reek distuction upon the world in which they clash. The great water guardian shall rise to quell the fighting, alone it's song will fail, thus the earth shall turn to Ash. Oh chosen one, bring together all three, the treasures combined tame the beast of the sea." Lawrence #3, a collector, is in his flying airship reading an inscription of an ancient legend that tells of a chosen one calming the titan of fire, ice, and lightning. The collector is hoping of getting all three of them and the greatest prize of all, lugia, who is said to emerge from the sea when all of the titans are brought together. The three titens turn out to be moltres, articuno, and zapdos. Lawrence first goes after moltes, who he attacks with bombs of ice. The enraged moltres flies out of a cave burning through ice that formed from the bombs. The collector presses a button sending out a special capturing device. Moltres dodges the cage blasting flames at it, but gets captured anyway. The cage returns to the ship and Lawrence smiles at his capture. The scene changes to Ash, Misty, and Tracey on a boat. Pikachu is at the front of the boat with an angry look on his face for some reason. The kids send out their pokemon for some fresh air. Team Rocket is following them the whole way. A storm mysteriously kicks up causing them to recall the pokemon and brace themselves on the bucking boat. Team rocket is in their submarine getting caught up in the waves as well. A huge school of magikarp push the sub trying to get to an island in the distance. The driver of the boat realizes they've been pushed off corse and are now heading toward Shamouti island, where the magikarp are going. Team rocket's sub smashes into the rocky shoreline. The boat sails past them and lands on Shamouti island. Meanwhile, back in Pallet town, Professor Oak and Ash's mom are talking. Suddenly it starts snowing, it is extremely odd because it is summer. A bunch of pidgey fly by and some diglett come rushing down the road. Professor Oak is very confused. Back at the island, The kids get off and are greeted by scaring looking creatures. The kids jump back from them and discover the creatures are really people wearing masks. The boat driver recognizes the people there and tells the kids they've arrived on the island at the time of the special "chosen one" ceremoy. When the people find out Ash is a pokemon trainer they start going nuts and dance around and stuff. The people plop leis around the kid's necks, and tell Ash he can play the part of the chosen one in their festival. The boat driver's friend states that her little sister, Melody, is playing the part of the maiden of the festival this year. Melody, who isn't dressed in festive clothes like everyone else, jumps down from the seawall and inspects ash telling him he's the best looking "chosen one" they've ever had. She gives him a "traditional island greeting" (a kiss). Misty gets jealous and Melody asks her if she's his girlfriend. Misty gets really mad and denies it. Melody just tells the kids to meet them at the ceremony tonight and leaves. The kids walk through the festival where they have gyarados shaped chinese new year dragon and festive dancers. They make it to a cabin where they are eating, when Melody pops into the room wearing some wierd little outfit and a veil. She starts playing the flute and dancing around. The kids watch her, she ends her song and kneels by Ash. She tells him in ancient lore that he must collect a glass ball from fire island, lightning island, and ice island to make a total of three, bring them to a ceremonial shrine, and Melody would celebrate by playing her song. Ash is eager to do his part in the fun ceremony, mostly because Melody is flirting with him the whole time. The girl who drove the boat at the beginning of the movie tells Ash she'll let him use her boat to get to the islands and they set off. Ash and the boat driver's first stop is fire island, however, on the way there the weather takes a turn for the worst again and they are caught in the violent ocean. After battling the waves a while, they finally reach the shores of fire island. Ash and the girl come topside, pikachu suddenly leaps off the boat and runs up some stone steps on the beach. Ash jumps off the boat and starts to go after him although the boat driver advised him not to go out in the storm.
Meanwhile, Melody is quite worried about Ash out in the storm. SHe holds herself responsible for making him go out and decides to go out looking for him in her own boat. Misty goes after her, Tracey tags along-why? no clue, he was probably just bored. The three teens brave the same sort of turbulence Ash faced earlier and head to fire island. Finally, they reach the island with the help of melody's experience boating skills. The boat driver greets them and points them in Ash's direction. Melody uses the sail of her boat so the wind will push them along on the ground.
Meanwhile-
Pikachu runs and runs with ash trailing behind him untill they reach a small shrine. Pikachu leaps on top of the shrine and shows Ash a shining red ball wedged in the stone shrine. With much effort Ash removes the ball and stuff it in his pocket. He and pikachu make their way down the stairs again, they are confronted by team rocket. Their goal is to get pikachu, like usual. Suddenly, Melody'sboat come whizzing up the stairs toward them and chases Team Rocket off. Melody scolds Ash for going out in such weather. She then makes a comment that Ash and Misty would have to deal with Ash's stupid behavior a lot when they get married. Misty's really ticked off. Ash is expressionless, I get the feeling he likes being fought over. Suddenly the squabble is cut short but a huge bolt of lightning shooting across the sky. The legendary bird zapdos soars by swawking and thundershocking. Pikachu tries to zap zapdos, Ash tells him to quit. Pikachu doesn't listen and tries to zap him agin. Team Rocket is nearby watching the whole incident, Meowth explains that pikachu isn't trying to attack zapdos, he's only trying to get it's attention so he can talk to it. Pikachu tries again and succeeds. Zapdos lands on the little shrine and crows, looking for whoever zapped it. PIkachu thundershocks it again and zapdos zaps him back. Meowth translates the question and answer- what is zapdos doing on fire island, and where is moltres, who is supposed to live here? Zapdos tells pikachu that zapdos is gone and now zapdos will reign over this island as well since he has dissapeared. Zapdos then goes wild and starts shocking everything everywhere. Suddenly the electricity from zapdos flies up into the clouds, even zapdos looks confused. Lawrence #3's airship comes down from the sky, it is absorbing the electrical energy to weaken zapdos. Square shaped bars fly out of the airship and chase zapdos who flees. The large bird tries to evade being captured by the bars, but it's useless, he gets captured and brought into the airship. For some odd reason, some spare bars accidentally capture, Ash, Melody, Misty, Tracey, and Team Rocket on Melody's wrecked boat. The kids are brought into the airship and confronted by Lawrence, he shows off his moltres and zapdos to them, saying that without articuno it's not a complete set. Misty is in disgust of how anyone could just collect pokemon like dolls or stamps. Finally he leaves because his computer allerts him that articuno is nearby. Articuno is freezing over lightning island so he can take it over himself.Lawrence is moving in on it.
Meanwhile,
Professor Ivy, Professor Oak, and Ash's mom are all in a helicopter. A reporter interviews professor oak, asking about the strange weather. Professor Oak describes a strange phenomenon inwhich if the power of fire, ice, and lightning were disrupted, it could cause a strange underwater current that could disrupt weather paterns and ultimately flood the world. Professor Ivy explains that the reason pokemon have been acting very strangely is because they can sense something is wrong and want to help, even if they aren't able to do anything at all. Ash's mom explains that she is very worried that her son may be hurt since he is exploring in that area of the orange islands at the time.
-Back in Lawrence's airship-
The kids decide they will help set the two birds free. They try all of there pokemon to bust zapdos out first, once the massive bird is free, it uses it's power to break moltres' jail. The two birds bust out of a nearby window and soar around the airship, destroying it. The kids watch the birds, Melody finds a tablet with the legend enscribed on it. They all realize that the legend is coming true! THe ship begins to crash on lightning island. The kids decide to make a break for it and run out of the collapsing ship. They make it out just in time. One of the support beams fall off of the ship and crashes into another small shrine like the one on fire island. The yellow glass ball from the shrine rolls out of the crash and stops right in front of Ash. He picks it up and stuffs it in his pocket with the other. The three birds are warring overheard for the posession of their islands. Some of their attacks nearly hit the kids so they decide to take shelter in melody's battered boat, which had fallen nearby. One of the birds attacks destroys the ice that had been holding back water the kids' boat was in. The water starts pouring over the edge og a cliff and the boat falls over with it. Suddenly a tornado of water bursts out of the sea and holds the boat up. All the kids are confused, A haunting, yet familar melody drifts through the air. The water funnel tosses them onto the beach near a large shine. The kids watch the water funnel with the legendary birds soaring around it. The water tunnel dissapates and the birds continue to fight. A slowking appears and startles Ash from behind, he explains about the shrine and that he should place the two treasures he has in it. Ash does this and sees he still needs to go ice island, looking through the hole in the shrine, just above the area the ice ball was supposed to be in, he can see it. The island looks especially treacherous with the birds fighting all around it. The fighting gets intense and the attacks just barely miss the kids again. It looks like they may get hurt this time as a tongue of flame blows toward them. The water tunnel reappears and bursts up in front to block the attack. A large shadow swims up through the funnel and the melody is heard again. Suddenly a beautiful white dragon-like pokemon bursts out of the funnel, blocking the sunlight. Lugia. The three birds start to attack it, lugia does a good job of defending itself with barrier and fancy flying. Finally it's just too much though, ice beam, flamethrower, and thunderbolt strikes it all at once causing an explosion. Lugia passes out and falls down into the ocean. Melody suddenly realizes that lugia was making the strange melody, and that the melody sounds just like the song she plays on her ocarina. Melody starts to play it. Deep down in the ocean, lugia hears it and is revived. He bursts out of the sea and begins to speak to the kids. He explains to them that Ash is the chosen one in reality and he has to get the last treasure and restore the balance or the world will be destroyed. Ash looks to ice island, afraid to go there, he wonders if lugia may be thinking he is someone else, maybe he isn't the one for the job. All his friends encourage him and Ash has a renewed sense of courage.
Meanwhile, Professor Oak, Ash's Mom, and Professor Ivy hit some turbulence and their helicopter crashes on the island with slowking and the large shrine. However, they are on a high cliff above where the kids are and aren't even aware they are there.
Ash devises a plan to get to ice island in a quick manner.Articuno has frozen the ocean, so he takes a piece of metal from the wrecked boat and makes a sled with his pokemon towing it. Lugia flies overhead to protect him from danger. Moltres' flamethrower cracks the ice and they unable to cross. Team Rocket comes speeding along in a hover craft like thing they h=made out of a rubber life raft and the burnt out tail propeller of the helicopter. Ash is befuddled at why Team Rocket would want to help him, but he accepts their help and climbs aboard. They travel quickly over the frozen ocean and onto the frozen island. They speed through an icy cave and over a frozen bridge until they reach the shrine with the ice treasure in it. The birds burst onto the scene then. Articuno gets electrocuted by zapdos and crashes into the shrine. The shrine breaks and the ice sphere roll to Ash, he graps it and they climb up the wall. Lugia is waiting at the top, Ash climbs on lugia's back to get away from the birds, Team Rocket grabs hold of lugia's leg and hitches a ride. Lugia can't go fast enough to avoid the attacks, so team rocket does something noble. They all decide to let go and fall into the ocean below. All sorts of pokemon are gathered in the sea and land now lugia says if things got their worst, the pokemon would try and step in. It seems as if Ash will get the sphere in the shrine safely until, diamond shaped bars come flying from the ruins of Lawrence's ship, this was his plan all along. To get lugia to emerge from the sea so he could capture him. The bars surround lugia, he blasts them away and dodges them the best he can. But finally three of them snare his body, around his neck, wings, and legs so he cannot fly. Ash, pikachu, and lugia fall into the ocean, they are all knocked unconsious. Misty, Tracey, and Melody are very disstressed, they saw the whole thing and worry Ash is dead. Melody says she will go and save him, but Misty stops her. Misty says she will go rescue him instead, since Melody needs to play the song for lugia. Just an excuse, but Melody seemed to understand and didn't poke fun at her like usual. Misty swims out to ash and pulls he and pikachu back to shore. When Ash first awakens he automatically goes for his pockets to check if the treasure is still there. He grasps it in his hand, struggles to his feet, and staggers up the steps to shrine. His friends help him up when he falls . He places the last treasure in the shrine and nods to Melody. Meldoy begins to play the song on her ocarina. The Shinig lights are released from each ball and the whole shrine glows green. A green liquid poours from the shrine and over the island, finally draining into the ocean. It melts the ice and restores the land to normal. On ice island, articuno hears the song and awakens. On another island zapdos and moltres, who are passed out on the snow, awaken. The three birds fly up into the sky, no longer angry they soar along weaving in and out between each other majestically. Deep down in the bottom of the ocean, lugia hears the song and awakens. He makes his water funnel and speeds up out of the water and into the sky. He spreads his wings gracefully and offers Ash a ride. Ash and pikachu climp on and fly with lugia, the three beautiful birds glide behind them. The dangerous underwater curent suddenly lifts itself out of the ocean and flies behind lugia and the birds. They fly around a while and then the birds fly off their sepperate ways and the whirling current settles into the sea again. Lugia circles around and lands back on the island where Ash's friends await. They say their goodbyes and the big pokemon splashes back to it's watery home. Ash's mom and professor oak come climbing down the edge of the cliff. Ash's mom scolds him for going out in such a storm and worrying her so much. Misty tells her that he just saved the world, but Mrs. Ketchum only replies that if she had lost Ash, she would have lost her whole world.....
